My least favorite thing about summer is scorching days. You know, the 101 degree, sticky skin, sweaty bra (<<< omg the worst) days when 15 minutes in a parking lot has your car hot enough to bake cookies? When temperatures soar, I usually throw my hands (brushes?) up and go for the bare makeup essentials: concealer, mascara, and brows. The new MAC Waterproof Brow line hit counters a couple of weeks ago, so I decided to give it a whirl. The release features two new products that claim to be sweat-free, smudge-proof, and humidity resistant: the Fluidline Brow Gelcreme and the Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set. I’ve never used a cream-pot type of product on my brows (I’ve always stuck to pencils, powder, or tinted mascara-like gels), so I was most intrigued by the new Gelcremes.
The colors I chose are Dirty Blonde (Gelcreme) and Emphatically Blonde (Brow Set). To apply, I take some of the Gelcreme on my angled MAC 266 brush and start with short strokes in the middle of my brow, then work through the tail and finally use the excess to fill in sparse areas toward the start of my brow. The consistency is virtually identical to that of the regular MAC Fluidlines: creamy and opaque. A little goes a long way, so I only need a dab or two to get the job done. Afterward, I comb through everything with the Brow Set to set the hairs in place.
Although I chose the lightest and coolest colors offered for each new product, they are still a bit warmer than I’m used to wearing on my brows. The first time I applied these guys I worried they may be too warm, but after a couple of days I decided I really love the color after all. To give you a comparison of how much warmer these colors are than traditional “dirty blonde” brow shades, above is Emphatically Blonde next to Benefit’s Gimme Brow in light/medium. You can see that Emphastically Blonde is noticeably more red.
So are these products actually waterproof? YES! I was pleasantly surprised when I first washed my face and they didn’t budge. I have to use a solid dose of makeup remover to get the product off. I generally skip makeup when I hit the pool/beach, but these products wear so well that I might just touch up my brows a bit the next time I’m headed poolside. I know they’ll last!
Overall, I’m thrilled with these products. I wasn’t sure I was going to love using a cream gel to fill in my brows, but I think it looks great and these are the best-wearing brow products I’ve tried. Good job, MAC!
