3 Useful Websites For Creatives

useful websites creatives

As somebody who is self-employed, I’m always on the lookout for tools to improve my work experience, and a few websites have been tremendously useful for my work day and blogging recently. They’re all free (to an extent) and regardless of occupation, I think everyone could find a way to utilize these in their work or personal lives.

  • Workfrom: This site offers an interactive map of public work-friendly places in your area: coffee shops, co-working spaces, bars, cafes, etc. Each location has a Yelp-like profile with details about Wifi speeds and passwords, noise levels, outlet availability, and reviews from fellow users. Whether you work from home and are looking for a change of scenery, or a need a place to study for exams, Workfrom is an easy way to find the perfect spot for a few hours of productivity.
  • Toggl: Ever wonder how much time you dedicate to the different areas of your work? Toggl is a timer: you enter the task you’re working on, the category in which it falls, hit “start” and Toggl will run a timer – even if you click out of the window and close your laptop. It adds up all of your tasks to give you the total hours of your workday, and provides a color-coded chart and reports to visually show how much of your day you allocated to each task. You can also view a weekly chart of the same nature. Some of the categories I use are blog, video, and paperwork, and at the end of each day/week I can see where my efforts were focused. It’s been really eye-opening to see the areas I spend most of my time, and areas where I’m not spending enough.
  • Skillshare: Designed for creators, Skillshare offers video classes and workshops for a variety of topics. Want to learn about SEO? How to brand your blog? Photoshop tips and tricks? If you’re trying to learn something technical in the digital space and need some help, I recommend it. Note: only some of the classes are available in the free version. For access to all of their classes, a premium membership is required. Right now, they are offering three months of premium for $0.99!

Great post, Allison! I love Lynda.com and although it’s not only for productivity, it has several online classes, including Getting Things Done (GTD) which is my favourite productivity methodology.

My sister just told me about Lynda the other day, what is the pricing like for classes?

      • Ju Lima

I have a monthly subscription and I can take as many classes as I’d like to. I believe it’s around USD 25 per month, if I’m not mistaken.

These are excellent tips! Thank you! I’ve found Trello to be useful, and you can share tasks with teams. I like that it creates a visual To Do list that I can move around, like virtual sticky notes.
